In 2010 Porsche announced a car that would go down in the history books as the most powerful manual transmission 911 ever created, and continue to be so even in the present day. Enter the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, a limited edition, 620 horsepower, rear wheel drive monster with lightweight components that caused its curb weight to dip even below the already featherweight GT2. Shocking the automotive world, it wasn’t much of a surprise that within 1 month, all 500 allocations were spoken for with 133 examples headed for the United States, making this special edition 911 even more exclusive. Porsche’s 911 GT2 RS was an extreme exercise in extremes. In addition to weight saving components and methods carried over from the GT2, like rear wheel drive and 6-speed manual transmission only, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes as standard, and other weight-saving items it gained some special touches. The GT2 RS, with its engine derived from the Metzger 3.6L twin turbocharged unit from the 24 Hours of Le Mans winning GT1 (and not a normal 911 Turbo), saw its power boosted to 620 horsepower. A single mass flywheel, polycarbonate side and rear windows, carbon fiber front hood and aluminum doors, center lock wheels, and other components saved another 155 pounds over the 911 GT2. At a paltry 3,085 pounds, 0-60 mph came in a gut-wrenching 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 209 miles an hour, yielding a new Nürburgring lap time when set on the Germany circuit. The 2011 911 GT2 RS is considered one of the all-time greatest Porsche 911s ever created, with an unparalleled driver involvement experience. The 997 GT2 RS holds, to this day, the record for the most powerful factory-built Porsche 911 with a 6-speed manual transmission, and will only continue to appreciate with its GT1-derived powertrain. This 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, #412 of 500, was built on December 1st, 2010 and was later delivered and registered with its first owner in September of 2011. One of the highlights of this vehicle was the owner’s decision to opt to spec their car in black paint over a black interior, not often selected and the best-looking specification by many Porsche enthusiasts. Optioned in black, the GT2 RS was also optioned with carbon fiber front fenders ($6,840), an additional carbon fiber interior package, Sport Chrono Package Plus, PCM with Navigation Module in leather, Sound package plus, auto dimming mirrors with intermittent rain sensor, wheels painted in black, rear center console in leather, Alcantara storage lid with Porsche logo, steering column casing in leather, Porsche crest on headrests, headlight cleaner in exterior color, clear tail lights, foot rest in aluminum. Standard options included center locking wheels, a carbon fiber front hood, front grill inserts, side air intakes, side mirrors, rear turbo wing, rear diffuser, full leather interior with Alcantara inserts, reduced weight battery, a locking differential with an asymmetric ratio, and more, listed on the vehicle’s copy of the original window sticker. MSRP was $272,420, with $26,500 of that being regular and exclusive options. The first owner had their car delivered to New Mexico in September of 2011, and in the span of two months drove the car 1,481 miles, thoroughly enjoying the car. The GT2 RS would then find itself with caretakers over the next decade, being serviced regularly with the odometer reading 6,815 after 11 years of being driven before it arrived at Canepa several years ago. The factory black paint and factory carbon still paired flawlessly, the powertrain and drivetrain working together in perfect harmony, and the condition of the GT2 RS ready to enter into any concourse event with only 7,106 miles since leaving the factory. Ready for its next owner to take the reins of one of the best driving 911s ever produced, the 2011 911 GT2 RS is a holy grail of sports cars. Impressive, high horsepower, low production, and everything in between, experience the full bandwidth that Porsche has to offer here.
